At a recent meeting of the City Council, the City Manager provided a brief update on the K-Mart property and progress there.
Mr. Merriman (The City Manager) said
“Brandicorp (Who is the developer buying the property) indicated they have two retailers interested in the out parcels along Main Street. They are currently determining how to extend Galloway Street; the most logical way would require the street to run straight through where there is an existing building (Fulmer’s). They are looking at all the options for this thru street.
There is also an environmental issue on the southeast corner of the property. There is no immediate danger, but the site needs to be remediated so they can ensure a clean site. He reported that the Kmart building is almost completely demolished, and the contractor will start on removing the footers/slab next week.”
Concerning the timeframe, Mr. Merriman went on to say
“development projects like this one take a lot of time because they need to be very thorough and it requires a lot of review. They want the end result of this project to enhance the downtown and be good for Xenia, and they want to do it right.”
